THE LENS
What is Human Design?
Human Design is a framework that maps how a person tends to operate, using the details of when and where they were born. It combines ideas from several older traditions with the language of modern science.
For me, it works as a set of questions, not a set of answers. It gives us somewhere to start when we ask how you are wired, what drains you, how you make decisions, and where you might have been trying to live by someone else’s rules.
Whether any of it is true for you is yours to say. If it rings true, we use it. If it does not, we set it down.
Where it comes from
A blend of traditions
It draws on astrology, the Chinese I Ching, the Hindu chakra system and the Jewish Kabbalah, brought together into one framework.
Taught since 1987
Ra Uru Hu described receiving the system in 1987 and taught it until his death in 2011. It has been passed on by many teachers since.
Science words, used as metaphor
It borrows language from physics and genetics. I treat those words as imagery, not as evidence.
HOW IT IS CALCULATED
Your chart, from your birth details
A Human Design chart is worked out, not guessed. It needs three details from you, and then software does the maths.
Your birth details
Your date, your exact time of birth and the place you were born. The time matters because the Moon and planets keep moving.
Two moments in the sky
The chart maps where the Sun, Moon and planets were when you were born, and again about 88 days earlier. The first is called your Personality and the second your Design.
One chart
Those positions are placed onto a chart called a bodygraph, which is where your type, strategy, authority and profile come from. I generate it from your details and we read it together.
The astronomy is simply fact, because the positions of the planets at any moment can be calculated. What the chart says those positions mean comes from Human Design’s own system, and that is the part we hold lightly.
AN HONEST NOTE
What I am, and what I am not
I am not a certified Human Design reader.
I have studied it, and I understand it well enough to offer real insight. I will always tell you when we reach the edge of what I know.
If you want a formal reading from a certified reader, that is a different service to the one I offer here.
What it is not
Not science
Research has not shown that Human Design predicts personality or behaviour. I use it to start good questions, not as proof.
Not a diagnosis
It says nothing about your mental health, and it is not a substitute for therapy or medical care.
Not a rulebook
If something in your chart does not fit your life, your life wins.
QUESTIONS
Things people ask
Plain answers, including the awkward ones.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes, it is what makes the chart accurate. Your birth certificate or hospital records often have it, and a parent may remember. If you cannot find it, we will talk about what we can and cannot say without it.
Is Human Design scientifically proven?
No. There is no research showing that it predicts personality or behaviour. The positions of the planets are astronomy, but what they mean in the chart is Human Design’s own interpretation. That is why I treat it as a lens for reflection, not a fact about you.
What if it does not fit me?
Then that is useful information too. Noticing what does not sound like you can be as revealing as noticing what does. Take what resonates and leave the rest.
Is this therapy?
No. BEGIN is not therapy. Human Design is one of three lenses we use to understand how you are wired, alongside your Resilience Measure and What Motivates You.
HOW IT FITS
Inside BEGIN
Share your birth details
In our first session, I will ask for your date, time and place of birth, and prepare your chart from them.
Talk it through
In session four, we go through your chart in plain language and test each part against your real life.
Bring it into the work
What we notice becomes one more lens as we move into the eight sessions of Ignition.
Curious how it fits together?
Human Design is one of three lenses inside BEGIN, alongside your Resilience Measure and What Motivates You.
